Fort Bend County Senior Center, LEED Silver Certification, Houston, TX

Architect for Life is leading the design and construction team through the LEED certification process for The Fort Bend County Senior Citizens Community Center. The architect of record is Archi*Technics3. The single purpose of the county facility provides a gathering place for senior citizens to socialize and to receive services. The facility can accommodate 750 plus clients. It includes a 1,800 square ft. auditorium (120 person occupancy) with movable stage, and large storage room for tables and chairs; a warming kitchen with range and multi-purpose dining area; a clinic with three exam rooms, restrooms, administrative office and adequate storage space. The community center also features two administrative offices and work space for staff along with a 900 sq. ft. conference room that can accommodate small meetings and trainings; classrooms for arts and crafts, a computer lab and an adaptable exercise/rehabilitation room with equipment for senior citizens.

The building has several restrooms located throughout that are handicap accessible and easy to access. The main entrance includes an inviting yet functional lobby/reception area that can double for small gatherings. This facility also houses a 400 sq. ft Police Substation with External and Internal entrances and offices for the local constable. This function serves the larger community and provides an added level of security to the facility.
